In cellar and basement construction the preferred method we use is to use a plastic membrane system this allows the water to pass through the building structure but is stopped by the membrane and directed by air gap at the back to an appropriate drainage point this can be in the form of a gravel strip to the base perimeter of the walls or a submersible pump the walls are then plastered directly or dry lined with plasterboard if the need arises the floor can be covered with membrane and joined to the wall membrane and then the plastic membrane can be finished with an appropriate floor screed.
